Make sure everyone gets out! There's a locked door ahead, I'll take care of it!

[he was going to stick around to bring up the rear, but. . . well. he trusts Tama to do just that. he'll lead the others through the passageway towards the exit instead]

[Once he's able to, makes his way over to follow the others, waiting just long enough to make sure Tama makes it as well]

[Once all of them are going, Tama's falling back too, mace in hand, facing the shadows.]

[As they head back the way they came, their reflections follow them, reaching for them--- pressing against the other side of the glass.]

[It even cracks, a little]

[Reflections were definitely not a good thing nor was being reached for by reflections. No, he's going to make sure he has a hold of Coin and make sure they run as hard and as fast as they can.

They are NOT dealing with something coming out of damn mirrors after them.]

[normally, Kaito doesn't like to smash mirrors willy nilly, especially not Nyssa's mirrors. but Crobat smashed one earlier, and the reflection inside of it disappeared. he doesn't really want to find out what happens if those things escape, so. . .]

[don't mind him as he slams the hilt of his rapier against the nearest cracked mirror as he passes. he doesn't slow down to see what the damage is, either]

[He hears the smashing of mirrors behind himself and the other teen, but he doesn't look back to see who's doing it. If it was friend or foe was a whole other story. Hopefully the former and not the latter.]

[ now there are also quick, heavy footfalls behind them, and they're gaining.

[ hope you're a really fast runner, Kaito, because now Otay's taking a leap and launching himself through the air at him-- which is apparently a thing he can do somehow-- prepared to bring his sword down on him. ]

[curses and skids to a halt, drawing his own sword from its shield as he swivels around to face his pursuer]

They would've broken anyway. . .!

[and he lifts his own blade to block Otay's attack]

[Cowboy is choosing when to pick his battles and when not to. Even though he wants to stay back and help, he's weaponless. Which is why he makes sure that him and Coin are still running. Hoping that Kaito will be fine.]

[ like he really cares about it anyway!!

when their blades meet, he presses forward, pushing his sword into Kaito's hard before pulling back, trying to slash his right side. ]

[then why even bring it up!!]

[thank god he took swordsmanship lessons from Clover. he jerks back as Otay does, moving his blade to parry the slash at his side. he's completely on the defensive here, focusing on blocking attacks and not making any himself, as he slowly takes step after step back down the hallway]

[he hopes Armin and the others are still running]

[ Moving the shield in front of him to be used as, well- a shield- Ochre charges Tama, intent on bowling him over. ]

[Tama's intent on staying in Ochre's way. He plants his feet, grips his mace at opposite ends and holds it up to block the charge. He gets pushed back, more like stumbles back, but he's pretty damn tough himself, so he manages to push back on the shield some too.

He's trying to push it aside, expose Ochre again.]

[ Ochre takes a short step back, and then lunges forward again, slamming at Tama, this time aiming the shield to put all of the force on one of Tama's hands, aiming to make him drop the mace. ]

[Tama turns and takes the blow on his shoulder, rather than his arm. It hurts, but he keeps his grip on the mace.

He's backing up now, trying to keep up with the rest while still keeping Ochre occupied.]

[ Ochre sweeps his shield down and to the side, trying to bring Tama's mace with it.

If he succeeds, he'll be taking a quick step in for a headbutt. ]

[The mace is successfully knocked out of his hand this time. He doesn't try to grab it again.

Instead he drops down, hits the floor on his back and swings his foot up at Ochre's face.]

[ His foot hits Ochre in the face, and he jerks back, yelping in pain, his free hand flying up to clutch at his nose, which started bleeding. ]

You shit!

[ It doesn't distract him for long, and now he's after Tama with a vengeance, teleporting to his side and kicking out at his gut. ]

[Tama's already trying to back up and catch up with the rest, leaving his mace behind.

He takes the kick to the gut as he retreats. It hurts. But he's grinning a little as he eats it and has the wind knocked out of him.

Got you to cheat first.]

[ Teleportation isn't cheating, it's winning.

Also, he's taking this mace, it's his now. ]

Drop something?

[ Shield in one hand, mace in the other, Ochre's matching Tama step for step. ]

[Tama laughs.]

Oh man, picking that up would be such a bad idea if I could use my stuff right now...

One of these days, I'm gonna squeeze a fair fight out of you.

[He continues to back up as he speaks.]
